Barrier #1 Procrastination (Part 2)

From our previous post, Personal Growth Barriers Series: Barrier #1 Procrastination (Part 1), we signed off with a  3-in-1 thought-provoking question:

How can you overcome procrastination,
emerge to success, no longer be a victim of it,
and take control of your day to day tasks?

Get Organized

First of all, if you feel like you are a victim of procrastination and would like to change that, start by getting yourself organized starting today. The best way to get organized is to just do it.  You do not need an elaborate plan.  You just need to start somewhere by taking the first step into unknown territory.  Try organizing any room in your home, manage your time by creating a daily, or make a list of your daily tasks/activities then prioritize them.

Having a sense of organization will give you stability and accomplishment.  One of the benefits of getting organized is to train and develop your brain for organization and structure.  As a result, you will become more aware of your time and most likely use it wisely without procrastinating and wasting valuable time.

“Take time to deliberate; but when the time for
action arrives, stop thinking and go in.”
– Napoleon Bonaparte

Creating a Routine

The next thing is to create a routine. Take your monthly and/or weekly planner and write down your short term as well as long term goals.   Also, jot down ways to accomplish these tasks. Make a habit of doing things as mentioned in your routine, even minor tasks like washing dishes (or loading the dishwasher).

Though initially, you will find it hard to create and follow a routine.  However, once you get started and make every effort to stick to it, you will relish in the habit of getting things at the designated time. This will help you in accomplishing your goals in a timely manner.  Thus, exchanging the habit of making excuses and not getting anything accomplished for the habit of making moves getting 'er done.

“Following-through is the only
 thing that separates dreamers from
people that accomplish great things.”
– Gene Hayden

Drawing your future plans gives you a great advantage over your precious time.  It is so easy to sit around idle for hours at a time without an organized plan and routine.  Without a plan, there is no accountability of work or taking care of business, whether it is personal or professional.  Now with the resilience of getting organized and sticking to a daily routine,  there may always be a strong urge to do things in a timely manner just so that you can scratch it off your list and feel at ease. Otherwise, if you don't you will become overwhelmed by having so much work to do.

“The only difference between success and
failure is the ability to take action.”
– Alexander Graham Bell

The Beauty of Overcoming Procrastination

Planning and managing your time in a productive manner always overcome procrastination. Remember, if you no longer wish to be a victim of procrastination and would like to emerge to success and take control of your activities and/or daily tasks, you must and need to finish them in the allotted time period you have given yourself. Say, "No!" to excuses, putting things off and "Yes!" to a new and improved organized lifestyle.

Moreover, if you start managing your time well you will be always left with plenty of time at the end of the day allowing you to carry other activities, even leisure ones, that were not feasible earlier due to your procrastination.

“Waiting is a trap. There will always be reasons
to wait – The truth is, there are only two things
in life, reasons, and results, and reasons
simply don’t count.”
– Robert Anthony

The most important aspect to get rid of your procrastination is to build just do it attitude. Always think it’s now or never whenever you feel like skipping the work or task that needs to be accomplished and you will always get rid of procrastination.
